Teens don't live in a vacuum or on an island. I believe to best intervene the entire family needs to get involved. I begin therapy with both parents (when possible) and the teen. I discuss all of their viewpoints and look at how multiple things contribute to and can be changed to improve a situation. Sometimes sessions will be with the teen alone, sometimes with parents alone, sometimes the whole family -- whatever makes the most sense for the best impact in your family. |
